Product Description
ProValant-VBM is a broad-spectrum biological insecticide formulated with a consortium of entomopathogenic fungi:
- 1. Verticillium lecanii
- 2. Beauveria bassiana
- 3. Metarhizium anisopliae
Each microbe is present at a concentration of 10 crore (1 x 10⁸) spores per ml. The product effectively targets mealybugs, whiteflies, and a variety of other insect pests, including white grub, fruit fly, aphids, gall midge, dusky bug, red bug, and multiple soil-borne infections.
Mode of Action
Verticillium lecanii:
- The fungal spores attach to the insect's cuticle and germinate, forming penetrating hyphae.
- Secretes enzymes like chitinase and protease that break down the insect exoskeleton, allowing the fungus to invade the host body.
- Once inside, the fungus proliferates, disrupting physiological functions and depleting the insect’s nutrients, ultimately leading to death by dehydration and metabolic failure.
- Also releases secondary metabolites that suppress insect immune responses, making them more vulnerable to infection.
Beauveria bassiana:
- Upon contact, the spores adhere to the insect's surface, germinate, and penetrate the exoskeleton.
- Produces toxins such as beauvericin and bassianolide, which impair cellular function and weaken the insect's immune system.
- The fungus spreads through the insect’s internal tissues, causing systemic infection and eventual death due to energy depletion and organ failure.
- Causes mummification of the insect body, preventing secondary pest outbreaks.
Metarhizium anisopliae:
- The spores germinate upon contact with the insect body, forming a germ tube that penetrates the cuticle using enzymatic degradation.
- Once inside, the fungus rapidly multiplies, blocking the insect’s circulatory and respiratory systems.
- Releases mycotoxins that disrupt neuromuscular coordination, leading to paralysis and mortality.
- Effective against soil-borne pests as it colonizes root zones, preventing larval-stage development of soil-dwelling insects like white grubs and termites.
Benefits
- Effective against mealybugs, whiteflies, white grub, fruit fly, aphids, gall midge, dusky bug, red bug, and soil-borne infections.
- Acts as a biological control agent, reducing chemical pesticide dependence.
- Eco-friendly and safe for beneficial insects, pollinators, and the environment.
- Enhances crop resilience by improving plant health.
- No residue or chemical toxicity issues.
- Reduces the risk of pesticide resistance in target pests.
